Location
The area marked in red on each of the first
three maps is expanded on the following map.
The area marked in green is that owned by
KCC, which they intend to sell for its market value. Unless
either MAP can raise the money, or someone comes forward to
purchase the site and retain it as open land, it will go
for residential developement. This land is currently looked
after by MAP.
The area marked in brown is owned by the trustees of
Sir Moses Montefiore's Will, who proposed to sell it for
residential development until MAP persuaded Thanet District
Council Planning Committee that this would be inappropriate
for the surroundings of the Synagogue.
The area of land MAP is trying to protect is in the
old village of Hereson, which is now part of Ramsgate
England. It is bounded by Hereson Road on the West,
Honeysuckle Road to the South, Dumpton Park Drive on the
East and the tree lined Montefiore Path on the North.
The line of lime trees along the path to the North
has a protection order on it. At the other end of this path
are the original gates to the site. These are given Grade 2
Listed.
